Privacy policy

Last updated 22 October 2026

This policy explains what personal data Rigsaw collects when you use this website or work with us, why, and what rights you have. We keep it short and specific to what we actually do.

Who we are

Rigsaw is a video editing and content production studio. It's run by Daniel Ball, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom, who is the controller of the personal data described in this policy.

For anything to do with your data, email hello@rigsaw.com.

What we collect and why

When you contact us

If you use the contact form or email us, we collect your name, email address, any channel or platform link you give us, what you need help with, and your message. We use this to reply and to discuss working together.

Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries, and taking steps at your request before entering into a contract.

Website analytics

If you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how people find and use the site, such as which pages are visited and roughly where visitors are in the world. This data is aggregated and we don't use it to identify you. If you reject analytics cookies, Google Analytics isn't loaded at all.

Lawful basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time from Cookie settings in the footer.

Server and security logs

Our hosting provider automatically records technical information when pages are requested, including IP address, browser type and the page requested. These logs keep the site secure and working, and are kept for a short period.

Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure website.

Clients

If you're a client, we hold the contact, project, footage and payment details needed to deliver the work. Footage and files you send us are used only to produce your content and aren't shared or published without your agreement.

Lawful basis: performing our contract with you, and complying with legal obligations such as tax record-keeping.

Cookies

We only use cookies that aren't strictly necessary if you agree to them. See our cookie policy for the full list.

Who we share data with

We don't sell personal data. We share it only with:

  • Our hosting and email providers, who store the site and deliver contact form messages on our behalf
  • Google, for Analytics (only with your consent) and web fonts. Loading the site's fonts sends your IP address to Google Fonts
  • YouTube, only if you press play on an embedded video
  • File transfer services you choose to send footage through, such as Google Drive or Dropbox
  • Professional advisers and authorities, where the law requires it

International transfers

Some of these providers, including Google, may process data outside the UK. Where they do, the transfer is covered by UK adequacy regulations or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum.

How long we keep data

Data How long
Enquiries that don't lead to work Up to 24 months after our last contact
Client records and invoices 6 years after the work ends, for tax and legal reasons
Client footage and project files Deleted within 90 days of final delivery unless we agree otherwise
Google Analytics data 14 months
Server logs Up to 30 days, unless needed to investigate a security issue

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • Ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Ask us to correct anything that's wrong
  • Ask us to delete your data
  • Ask us to restrict or stop using your data, or object to how we use it
  • Receive your data in a portable format
  • Withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent

To use any of these rights, email hello@rigsaw.com. We'll respond within one month.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We'd appreciate the chance to put it right first.

Children

This website isn't aimed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect their data through it. We only work with creators under 18 with the involvement of a parent or guardian.

Keeping data secure

We use reputable providers, encrypted connections (HTTPS) and limited access to keep data safe.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we use personal data, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
